On Wednesday, I took my first graders to a retirement home, and they read books to the residents there. It was so sweet...

There you go, reminding me of what is beautiful in life again! I miss you, sister! Fri 25-Mar-2005 21:43

Its sugaring time! Right now the weather is just right. Its icy cold at night, but it warms up during the day. This is when the sap is flowing. On Monday, I took my first graders out behind the school to where we have a single maple tree.
One of my student's parents makes maple syrup each year, and he wanted to teach our class about the process. This is what will make us true New Englanders! I'm just loving it, and my students are almost as excited. Look for more pictures soon!

i wish i was one of your students. Thu 17-Mar-2005 04:37

On Saturday, Cari and I drove down to Boston for a painting party. Only one in the group considers himself a painter... but we all had some good times.

Looks like fun! Wed 16-Mar-2005 15:16

a painting project

Matthew 11:5-6
Martin and me
the room we painted
View all 11 photos...
On Wednesday, Cheri and Joe's friend picked me up and took me to a school for deaf children. I bought and borrowed some supplies, and with Martin's help, I painted a room in one of their buildings. After we finished, I had some time to play with the children.

This is a beautiful ministry that rescues deaf children and gives them dignity. And they are so proud of their school. I was pulled in every direction as the kids tried to show me around the place. Unfortunately, their resources are very limited. They are still in the process of raising awareness by finding individuals and churches who are interested in supporting these children.
In the meantime, they do the best they can. The children have two swings to share, and they play with whatever else they can find: a broken computer keyboard, a tire, a plastic bag, some nails...

If you think that you or your church might be able to do something to help, take a look at the donation forms on their website: amdjmd.org
Your resources will not be wasted!

Hi Cat!
It was wonderful as always to talk with you yesterday...I miss you so much. Thank you for sharing your experiences in Jamaca...and for stepping in and doing what you can do (with the beauty and grace that characterizes your life) in situations that are overwelming, to say the least. I love you, girl!

My date on valentine's day was a five year-old named Kemper. He and I went to the local retirement home where he serenaded us all with impromptu songs about love and gave everybody lots of hugs and kisses.

catherine, the pictures are great! sure beats handing out cookies at braum's ice cream... Sun 27-Feb-2005 02:18

I had forgotten about the year we passed out heart-shaped cookies at Braum's and the bookstore! If I remember correctly, none of the people at Braum's would eat them... talk about rejection on valentine's day. Sun 27-Feb-2005 03:01
