when pearce came to town
Funny... after all this time of posting pictures, I just now figured out how to edit them.
Jason Pearce (Ryan's friend from college) came up to Cincinnati for a few days, and I got to tag along for some of the good times. We went to Rohs Street Cafe on Friday night, visited a couple of bookstores and explored Old St. George's cathedral on Saturday, and went to Newport in Columbus to see Eisley and Snow Patrol on Sunday.
It was great having you here, Pearce.

labor day weekend
Ryan and I drove up to Bourbonnais, Illinois this weekend to Erin's parents house where she hosted a labor day reunion party. There were about 20 of us who spent three days together... The weekend included bowling, card games, speed scrabble, Frisbee, soccer, swimming, music, daytime naps, a campfire, lots of food, lots of coffee, and good, long conversations with a bunch of great people. I'm kind of hoping that this can become an annual event...
Thanks, Erin (and thanks to the Knowles' for letting us take over your house!)

preparing for the harris' arrival
In keeping with the Community House tradition, we frantically worked to prepare for the newest residents of our household up until the last hours before their arrival. This involved assembling furniture and refinishing the wood floors in their two rooms. It made for a long week, but I actually really enjoyed it. This kind of thing provides great bonding time. (Building bunk beds requires a team effort, we discovered.) And through the combined efforts of Dave, Ryan, and Jody, the floors were restored from a hideous teal paint to a beautiful natural pine.
Welcome Steve, Sarah, Joseph, and Grace! We're so happy to have you here.

josie's first camping trip
Kenny, Marissa, Ryan Henry, Ryan Pettit, Elizabeth, and I all went to Red River Gorge for Josie's first camping trip. We set up our tents at the campground and then set out on a hike through a great cave and over a natural bridge. We had time to roast and eat our hot dogs back at the campsite before the thunder and lightning started. Yeah. It was a pretty bad storm. It only took an hour or two of torrential rain for the Havens' tent to fill up with water. And since the storm showed no signs of letting up, they wisely decided to take Josie home to her dry bed in Norwood. The rest of us shared a giant tent, and as long as we stayed in the middle, the puddles around the edges didn't bother us too much. We entertained ourselves under the glow of the flashlight with a wild game of euchre. We slept until about 10am, ate breakfast, packed up, and went for a morning hike to see some "angel windows" (rocks). It was beautiful.

michelle's visit
Michelle is one of my great good friends... and a crazy connection between all of my worlds. We are friends from college in Ohio, and then when she graduated, Michelle lived in my hometown in New Hampshire. After that, we were roommates in Texas where we both went to the same church and grad school. (Now we're dreaming about living overseas together someday...)
We spent a day together catching up with long conversations, and then we spent a day in Yellow Springs (where I used to live) and Xenia (where she used to live) hanging out with our friends Christina and Christa. I am so thankful to have such good people in my life.
